{July 3, 2008}   OH NO!

Say it ain’t so!

According to the New York Times, Starbucks is going to close 600 stores in the coming year. This is horrendous news for a few of reasons:

1) Starbucks is my home away from home (free air conditioning and a friendly face – sign me up!)

2) Starbucks is my drug, addiction and lifeline

3) So many people are going to lose their jobs in an already difficult economic time (12,000 people to be exact)

I have always admired Starbucks – of course for their delicious coffee and yummy treats – but also because Howard Schultz (Pres. and CEO) strikes me as a truly genuine guy. I have heard him interviewed on countless occasions, and he really seems to care not only about his bottom line, but about the thousands of employees who work for him. Starbucks employees enjoy perks such as stock options and health care. I like that they are called partners, even if it’s just a moniker it is one that denotes respect (which they so deserve for dealing with difficult and demanding people all day).

I for one hope (and pray) that this is not the beginning of the end for Starbucks… I seriously have no idea what I would do without my daily coffee. And I am SERIOUSLY praying that my “home base” location is not one of the many affected stores – I am too attached to handle a change like that in my life at the moment.

{May 29, 2008}   I Scream AT Ice Cream…

We are now on the precipice of the full blown summer season, which is so exciting because along with summer comes fun, sun and of course ICE CREAM!

I am a huge fan of ice cream…. especially when bought straight from the ice cream man (you know with the truck and everything?)… it just brings back more innocent times. However, when there is no truck it’s always nice to have a great carton of creamy goodness waiting for you in the freezer. Personally, my favorite brand is Edy’s Slow Churned.

Unfortunately the other day when I skipped to the grocery store anticipating the purchase of a new carton to replace my recently eaten one I made a horrifying discovery! Edy’s has decreased the size of their ice cream cartons but the price has stayed the same!

DID THEY THINK I WOULDN”T NOTICE????? The carton is clearly smaller… as in it is really obvious…. even a blind person would notice. I am sooooooooooo annoyed… I know this is all a sign of increased food prices and blah, blah, blah but I am feeling angry.

Sadly, my need for ice cream has trumped my anger and thus I will continue to buy Edy’s Slow Churned goodness…. but I do want it noted that I am not taking this lightly….

{May 25, 2008}   When Food is Love

Sometimes I get home after a long day and I just need a little pick me up. I know, I know you should never turn to food for love or comfort but I am throwing all that nonsense out the window because I think I have just found my next lover.

Glenny’s soy crisps are like little pieces of heaven. There is a flavor to satisfy every pallet – although truth be told you can’t beat the seemingly plain ‘lightly salted.’ Oh! the best part? They’re actually good for you…. it’s true! I swear drop everything and go get some now… I promise you won’t be disappointed…. (if by chance you are disappointed and you don’t like these… then all I can say is WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!)

just a quick note…. I am not being paid by Glenny’s or affiliated with the company in any way. However if they’d like to pay me I wouldn’t put up a fight…
